President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadith of Yemen on Monday appointed the UN envoy of the country Khaled Bahan as the new prime minister in a move welcomed by Houthi rebels who control the capital after they rejected the appointment of Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak.
According to Abdelmalek al-Ejri, a memeber of the Houthis political bureau, he told the reuters news agency that Bahah was the right person and his appointment would help the country overcome the difficulties it was going through.
The appointment is part of a peace deal brokered by the UN after Houthis swept through Granada last month and took over army barracks, ministries, and vital state institution, and it also aims at bringing the Houthis and the wing of a seperalist group into a more inclusive government.
Bahahhas is said to have 30 days to form a government after rival political groups gave their backing to his selection. Yemen has faced a troubled transition after long time president Ali Abalilan Salem was ousted in 2012 following a year of protests.
