South Africa’s first black billionaire, Patrice Motsepe, was reported to have donated $1 million to the Guinean fund to help with fighting Ebola spread. Forbes Report.
Motsepe, the founder of the Motsepe Family Foundation and Executive Chairman of South African mining giant, African Rainbow Minerals (ARM), made the commitment to Guinea a few weeks ago, but the appropriate regulatory approvals were obtained only last Friday.
According to Forbes, he is reportedly worth $2.7 billion.
Motsepe is also the first African to sign on to Bill Gates’ and Warren Buffett’s Giving Pledge when he announced his plan to give away half the income generated from assets owned by his family to the Motsepe Family Foundation which supports initiatives in education, health and women empowerment.
