Nigerian Teams Win In Continental Matches

Dolphins and Kano Pillars won their respective games in the continent after producing good displays. Kano Pillars beat Al Malakia of Sudan 3-0 to complete a five nil aggregate win to qualify for the first round of the CAF champions league while a 1-0 win over Vegeterenios helped Dolphins earn a penalty shootout win after the tie finished 1-1 on aggregate to qualify for the first round of the CAF confederations cup.

The goalkeeper, Sunday Rotimi was on top of his game saving Guy Yannice’s penalties to take his side to the first round of the confederations cup. Gambo Mohammed bagged a brace as Ezekiel Mba was olso on target for the reigning Nigerian premier league champions who were by far the better team against Al Malakia on the night to ensure their qualification for the first round of the Champions league.

Both Kano Pillars and Dolphins would be looking to go all the way in the champions league and confederations cup.

Arsenal To Give Wenger 50 Million Euros In The Summer

Arsenal are not keen on big spending any more as reports from the Emirates stadium suggest that Arsene Wenger could be given only 50 million Euros to spend in the summer on transfers.

Barcelona Beat Granada 3-1 To Cut Gap In La Liga

Barcelona produced a great display to see off Granada as Suarez and Lionel Messi were on target in a 3-1 victory over Granada as they continue to chase Real Madrid in the la liga.

Barcelona took a while to get started in the match but they controlled the match. In the 25^th minute however, when Suarez brole into the Granada box, the Uruguayan had the presence of mind to square the ball back to Rakitic who tapped the ball home to give Barcelona the lead. Lus Suarez doubled Barcelona’s lead three minutes after the restart, finishing with aplomb after running on to a pass from Rakitic. Granada looked to fight back quickly and in the 53^rd minute, Bangoura was brought down by Bartra and Rico was on hand to convert the penalty. Granada could not get a foothold on the game and in the 70^th minute, Suarez broke into the box again, rounded the goalkeeper before setting up Messi to make it 3-1.

Barcelona have reduced Real Madrid’s lead at the top of the la liga to one point but the European champions still have a game in hand.

Manchester United Beat Ten Man Sunderland 2-0 At Old Trafford

Wayne Rooney scored his first premier league goals of the year as Manchester United rose to see off Sunderland after Wes Brown had been wrongly red carded.

Sunderland started the brighter of the two sides but Manchester United grew into the game and finished the first half strongly despite Sunderland defending deep and shutting out Manchester Uited effectively. Januzaj came i=on in the second half and created space for Manchester United and in the 66^th minute, Falcao turned in the box and was through on goal. The Colombian was wrestled to the ground by John O’Shea. The referee pointed to the spot but mistakenly red carded Wes Brown instead. Wayne Rooney converted the resulting penalty to make it one nil. Manchester United continued to control the game and in the 84^th minute when Manchester United broke free again, Januzaj forced a save from Pantilimion and Rooney was on hand to head home and secure the result for Manchester United.

Manchester United have climbed above Arsenal back into third but the North London club have a game against Everton tomorrow.

NEF: Group Warns FG As Plot To Sack Jega Intensifies

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has threatened the Federal Government of Nigeria over plot to remove the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Attahiru Jega, before the commencing of the country’s 2015 general elections.

In a briefing on Friday by its spokesman, Ango Abdullahi threatened that such move will be a “recipe for disaster.”

According to Naij, Mr. Abdullahi further revealed that any attempt at this last minute by the Federal Government or any of its agencies to remove Jega is a clear message that the government is determined to rig the forthcoming elections.

The group disclosed that the presidency wants Jega removed because they see him as an impediment as he thinks that the electoral umpire must follow the rules for free, fair and credible elections.

You’re Not OBJ- Thugs Beat PDP Defector To Pulp For Tearing Membership Card

Another member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who tried to re-enact Nigeria’s ex president action by openly tearing his PDP membership card has been allegedly beaten by thugs.

The senior special assistant on security to the governor of Gombe State, Abdullahi Muhammad publicly tore his party membership card on February 17, 2015, following the example of Nigeria’s former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Camera caught the aid shredding his card and pledging his allegiance to the All Progressives Congress.

Here is Abdullahi Muhammad’s side of the story after the incident:

“I was attacked by a group of hoodlums numbering 3 who accosted me at a car wash near Buba Shongo along Bauchi road in Gombe. While they were hitting me one of them was shouting on top of his voice saying “why must you antagonize the Governor (Dankwambo)”. It was then I realized their mission! They drove in a car with reg number BLG 142 AA. IF I HAVE TO PAY THE SUPREME PRICE, FOR MY PEOPLE TO GAIN SUCCURE, SO BE IT. I DECAMPED TO APC AND NO GOING BACK. IF HIS EXCELLENCY FEELS KILLING ME IS WHAT WILL RETURN HIM COME 11TH APRIL, THE MASSES WILL DECIDE HIS FATE EVEN AFTER MY DEMISE.”

Nigerian Bulletin reported that, shortly after the incident, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo accused his assistant of seeking a loan for his mortgage.

Not Again! Farmer Drags Buhari To Court Over Certificate

A certain peasant farmer‎ has allegedly approached the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, begging it not to allow Major General Muhammadu Buhari, to contest the March 28 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

VanguardNg reported that the plaintiff, Sergin Onuka Ibe, from Abia State, through his lawyer Mr. U.O. Ukairo,‎ wants the court to invoke its original powers and compel ‎Buhari to not only withdraw from the presidential race, but to equally stop parading himself as a bonafide candidate for the poll.

He maintained that Buhari is not legally fit to vie for presidency in view of the pendency of a perjury charge against him.

Mr. Onuka further disclosed that Buhari violated the provision of section 31 of the Electoral Act by lying on oath about his educational qualifications.

He told the court that a personal investigation he conducted revealed that Buhari lacks the basic educational qualifications, adding that the information the 1st defendant supplied to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in his Form CF001, were false.

Schalke Close In On Khedira

German midfielder, Sami Khedira’s contract with Real Madrid runs out in the summer and neither party seems interested in a new deal, Schalke are however interested in acquiring the services of the German.

Real Madrid seemingly shut the door on Sami Khedira’s Real Madrid career when they brought in Lucas Silva during the January transfer window prompting Khedira to intensify his search for a new club. Khedira has been linked with a number of clubs across Germany and England in recent weeks but no offer has followed any of those rumors. Di Matteo is believed to be a huge admirer of the tough tackling German and would like to make Khedira part of his side as he looks to take Schalke further in the league.

Schalke are yet ot offer Khedira a contract but the German should be expecting a pay cut as the German club simply cannot match Real Madrid’s financial strength.

Racism: Banana Thrown At Gervinho By Fans

Feyenoord fans seem not to have learned anything from the bad press racism activities attracted for Chelsea football club even though the guilty fans in Chelsea’s case were not at Stamford Bridge.

AS Roma’s Europa league clash with Feyenoord in Holland was suspended for ten minutes as fans threw objects onto the pitch during the match. The most conspicuous to the media though was the inflatable banana that was thrown towards Ivorian forward, Gervinho. Both teams had to vacate the pitch for about ten minutes in the 55^th minute as a riot threatened to break out during the match. Rudi Garcia described the incident as a slap on the face of European football. “We could open a market with the items thrown on the pitch” the AS Roma manager told reporters after the match. UEFA are set to launch an investigation into the event.

Gervinho went on to score the winner in the match as AS Roma picked up a 2-1 win on the night and a 3-2 aggregate win to go on to the next round of the tournament.

Qatar World Cup Must End On 18th December: Baltter

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has stated that the 2022 World Cup which is scheduled to take place in the winter in Qatar owing to the climatic conditions in Qatar must end on or before the 18^th of December.

A special taskforce had decided that a winter world cup would best serve the players and the fans in 2022 as weather conditions in the summer were deemed too extreme. European clubs had bemoaned the winter scheduling of the world cup claiming that their footballing calendars would be disrupted by an international tournament in November and December. Debates had come up concerning the tournament ending on the 23^rd of December but Blatter has negated the notion claiming the date would be too inconvenient. “We have to stop at the 18th,” said Blatter. “The World Cup will not go on until the 23rd, definitely not.” Blatter told reporters on earlier. Blatter however agreed with Preseidential elections opponent, Luis Figo and UEFA president Michel Platini when he stated that there would have to be some compromise on everyone’s part to make the 2022 winter World cup work.

FIFA are set to ratify the winter as the best time for the Qatar 2022 world cup in their next executive cancel meeting.

Despite being humiliated, losing 3-1 at home in the first leg of their round of 16 clash with Monaco, Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has warned Monaco fans not to count their chickens before the egg hatch, telling Arsenal critics that his side are still very much in the tie.

Conceding that the defeat was difficult to take in Wenger told reporters “We are still in the Champions League, don’t rule us out too quickly.” The Frenchman’s future at Arsenal was called into question after the loss to Monaco at the Emirates Stadium but the Frenchman is keeping faith with his side. Admitting his frustration at not being able to go past the last sixteen in the past four years, Arsene Wenger told reporters that he and his side are going to give the second leg all they have to endure that there isn’t a repeat this year. “There is nobody to blame individually. On the night everything went against us and missing chances was only one characteristic. What’s important to give a strong response. We are a big club so that gives us a stronger responsibility”. Wenger told reporters.

Arsenal critics should not be too quick to forget Arsenal’s impressive but ultimately futile combacks against AC Milan and Bayern Munich in recent years. Arsenal have a knack for turning things around when you least expect it and they really have to do it now.

Van Persie Faces Lengthy Injury Lay-Off

Manchester United manager, Louis Van Gaal has confirmed that Robin Van Persie, who was stretchered out last weekend at The Liberty Stadium during Manchester United’s 2-1 loss to Swansea City could be out for as many as three months with an ankle injury.

Van Gaal was speaking at Manchester United’s pre-match conference where he confirmed the striker’s condition, claiming that the Netherlands captain had damaged his ankle ligaments during the match. Van Persie is currently Manchester United’s highest goal scorer and Van Gaal admitted that losing the Pukas Award nominee was a huge blow to the club. Manchester United face off against Sunderland on Saturday and would be without the former Arsenal man for what would be the first of many sets of matches without their hit man.

Manchester United would have to approach the tail end of the season and a very intense battle for a top four spot with misfiring Colombian forward, Radamel Falcao as their top striker. If ever there was a time for Falcao to step up and justify his price tag and wage bill, this is it.

Chicago Bulls Given Hope As Derrick Rose Might Return This Season

The Chicago Bulls have announced that injured point guard Derrick Rose will have surgery on his injured knee on Friday morning.

The Bulls are hopeful that after the surgery, Rose could be back on the court in 4 weeks.

The Bulls said Rose will undergo a meniscectomy, which is a removal of part or all of the meniscus, and there is considerable optimism that Rose’s second meniscus tear is small.

If the tear is small and only a small portion of the meniscus is trimmed, it’s possible Rose’s timeline could be in the three- to six-week period.

The surgery will be Rose’s 3rd in 3 years, as the player battles with injuries that have slowed down a great career.

It was an afternoon of celebration, glitz and glamour as Africa Magic, the continent’s leading provider of world class entertainment, treated nominees for the 2015 edition of the prestigious Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) to a celebratory brunch. The brunch, which held at the Ball Room of the Intercontinental Hotel, Lagos, was in association with MultiChoice and supported by lead sponsors Amstel Malta, associate sponsor MTN and other sponsors: Payporte, Unilever and Verve. The event also saw the unveiling of a special AMVCA edition of Nigeria’s leading fashion and style , Mania Magazine.

The brunch which was hosted by popular on air personality and presenter of 53 Extra, Ozzy Agu, began with a red carpet event and had in attendance a number of popular Nollywood talents nominated in several categories at this year’s AMVCAs. Guests at the event included OC Ukeje, Iretiola Doyle, Segun Arinze, Joke Silva, Linda Ejiofor, IK Osakioduwa, Omoni Oboli and many others!
