Ministerial Nomination: Obanikoro Inclusion Causes Stir As Senate Prepares To Screen Candidates

Obanikoro

Those nominated in the ministerial list sent to the Senate by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria are set to appear before the Senate for screening.

Naij disclosed that despite the stir surfacing from the inclusion of former minister of state for defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, as one of the nominees for ministerial appointments by Jonathan, the Senate has concluded plans to begin screening of the nominees today.

Other candidates in the list include Patricia Akwashiki (Nasarawa), Nicholas Akise Ada (Benue), Augustine Okwudiri Akobundu, Fidelis Nwankwo (Ebonyi), Hauwa’u Lawan (Jigawa), Kenneth Kobani (Rivers) and Joel Danlami Ikenya (Taraba).

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in a letter addressed to the Senate president David Mark, on Feb. 16, requested the red chamber to confirm the eight ministerial nominees in accordance with section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution.

It would be noted that the President has come under intense criticism from the populace over the inclusion of Obanikoro on the ministerial nominees’ list, due to his alleged involvement in the rigging of the Ekiti elections, as revealed in a leaked meeting with other politicians.
