Wayne Rooney scored his first premier league goals of the year as Manchester United rose to see off Sunderland after Wes Brown had been wrongly red carded.
Sunderland started the brighter of the two sides but Manchester United grew into the game and finished the first half strongly despite Sunderland defending deep and shutting out Manchester Uited effectively. Januzaj came i=on in the second half and created space for Manchester United and in the 66th minute, Falcao turned in the box and was through on goal. The Colombian was wrestled to the ground by John O’Shea. The referee pointed to the spot but mistakenly red carded Wes Brown instead. Wayne Rooney converted the resulting penalty to make it one nil. Manchester United continued to control the game and in the 84th minute when Manchester United broke free again, Januzaj forced a save from Pantilimion and Rooney was on hand to head home and secure the result for Manchester United.
Manchester United have climbed above Arsenal back into third but the North London club have a game against Everton tomorrow.
