Judge Rules In Favour Of Bring Back Our Girls Group

A Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice S. E. Aladetoyinbo, on Thursday ruled in favour of the Bring Back Our Girls group against former FCT Police Commissioner, Joseph Mbu, saying that the police had no right to ban protests in

Nigeria.

Joseph Mbu had on June 3, 2014 banned the group from holding further protests to press for the release of the 219 school girls that were abducted by insurgents in Chibok, Borno state.

Justice Aladetoyinbo also ruled that it wasn’t obligatory for citizens to get permission from the police force to stage protests, even though they are mandated to notify security agencies before such protests.

Mrs. Aisha Yesufu, a member of the Bring Back Our Girls group, said she was excited by the ruling. “When something is done to you don’t just keep quiet, come out do the right thing: take your case to the court,” she said.

“A lot of times it’s because we keep quiet that these things continue to happen. There are 219 girls out there that are voiceless, and with all these narratives going on this shouldn’t have been happening, all the energy we have been

dissipating here should be used towards rescuing these girls. It’s a mixture of happiness and sadness,” Mrs. Yesufu added.

Tomorrow marks 200 days since the 276 girls were abducted from their secondary school hostel, in Chibok, Borno State by

Boko Haram. 219 of the girls remain in captivity
