Senator Gbenga Obadara, the chairman Senate Committee on Privatization on Wednesday ordered the search of reporters shortly after an interactive session over an alleged missing ” China smart phone ” in Kano.
The Senator and some members of his entourage were in Kano in one of the oversight functions at the headquarters of Kano Electrical Distribution Company located at Post office road.
However, issue surfaced when the Senator raised an alarm to his host that his phone had been stolen at the venue.
As soon as the alarm was raised, the policemen manning the entrance of the hall were ordered not to open the door for journalists till after they were searched.
Heavily armed policemen were subsequently drafted inside the conference hall for the search operations on the hapless Journalists.
They was a sigh of relief as an announcement came through that the phone had been found by the senator.
At that point, the management was embarrassed.
The chairman of Correspondent chapel, Mr. Francis Edwin Olofu described the incident as “totally demeaning, provocative and uncalled for.”
The Public Relations Manager of Kano Electrical Distribution Company, Alhaji Mukhtar Baffa, however appealed for understanding, pointing out that “it was not meant to humiliate members of pen profession.”
