Louis Van Gaal was criticized by Manchester United fans and pundits alike for allowing the industrious Danny Welbeck to go in the summer but the Dutchman has been vindicated by Smalling who is currently level on goals scored this season with the Arsenal fan.
It is important to note that Chris Smalling is a center back while Danny Welbeck is a center forward. With Chris Smalling’s header against Manchester City, Smalling has now scored four goals this season, the same number of goals Welbeck has managed for Arsenal. Unimpressive, to say the least.
Arsenal’s impressive 16 million pound outlay for Danny Welbeck isn’t paying off at the moment and the misfiring English forward needs to really find his scoring boots as Giroud is giving him a run for his money at Arsenal while Harry Kane is on his way to becoming England’s leading forward and Welbeck could end up finding himself stuck in the shadows of those two.
