MADRID DERBY STALEMATE

The last time this two teams met, Atletico controlled proceedings and won by four goals to one. Almost felt like Karma acted early for Real Madrid as they ended up being matched against their Madrid brothers in the, champions league quarter-finals. It was a repeat of last year’s champions league final though, as Real dominated from start at the Vicente Calderon. Jan Oblak was the hero for Atletico, as he kept the holders at the bay. A feisty derby clash ended goalless, setting up a dramatic return leg at the Bernabeu.

JUVENTUS SNATCHES NARROW WIN

Monaco went into the match against Serie A giants, Juventus, the underdogs. Leonardo Jardim’s men saw off Arsenal in the last-16, but didn’t play with the same fervor as they did. They held Juventus at bay, only for Juventus to win a penalty in the second half, which Arturo Vidal had no problem in converting. Monaco would look to overcome this deficit when they welcome Juventus to the Stade Louis II

SUAREZ BRACE AND NEYMAR GOAL SINK PSG

Well, yes this happened. Barcelona mauled PSG, the same PSG that saw off Chelsea with just ten men. Though they were without midfielder Verratti and talisman, Ibrahimovic, it really should make no difference. Probably the injury induced withdrawal of Silva compounded their problems. Barcelona grabbed their away goal as early as the 18th minute via Brazilian forward, Neymar. Suarez who missed a chance of making it two in the second half, made no mistake a second time. He nutmegged Luiz, who came in for injured Silva and held off Marquinhos and Maxwell to slot home his first of the night. His brace completed in ten minutes, as he cleverly outfoxed Luiz again to score a wonderful and beautiful goal. Mathieu deflected Van der wiels shot past Ter Stegen eight minutes to full time. Barcelona grab a crucial win, with three away goals in the bag.

BAYERN TRAMPLED BY PORTO

I was also shocked, ignoring the fact that Bayern are without Schweinsteiger, Robben and Ribery, I expected them to hold their own against Porto. Reverse was the case though as Bayern was fighting back against Porto. Porto got their lead as early as the third minute, with Neuer having felled Martinez in the penalty box, the resulting penalty cooly converted by Quaresma. The odds might not have been in Porto’s favor, but a slip from Dante in the 10th minute saw Quaresma take advantage of it and put Porto in the lead as early as the tenth minute. Bayern were relentless and got the desired result when Thiago Alcantara scored in the 28th minute, this wasn’t enough thouhh as another defensive error, this time from Boateng, saw Martinez net his seventh champions league goal.
