Emerging report has it that the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ughelli chapter in Delta state has been assassinated.
According to NAN report, the chairman, Mr. Austin Icheghe was assassinated in front of his house on Thursday, April 16, by yet to be identified assailants.
The niece of the deceased, Egunor Uviesa, said some gunmen shot the lawyer at about 9.00pm as he was alighting from his car in front of his compound.
“As soon as he came down from his vehicle, they accosted him and shot him on the head. He was immediately rushed to a private clinic in Ughelli where he was confirmed dead,” she said.
It was learnt that the victim was still in his pool of blood at the spot where he was killed.
The state police command spokesman, Celestina Kalu, when contacted on the incident, Kalu confirmed the tragedy via text message saying: “Yes sir, he was murdered by unknown gunmen last night.”
