NLC Gives Benue Govt Ultimatum: Pay Outstanding Salaries Or Face Our Wrath

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Benue state council has given a seven- day ultimatum to the state government within which to pay outstanding salaries owed to all categories of public servants in the state or face industrial action.


This was made known in a statement signed by the state NLC chairman, Comrade Simon Anchaver and Secretary, Comrade Jumpa Emmanuel, yesterday in Makurdi the state capital, the congress stated that “this decision was taken in consultation with the national secretariat which directed that the ultimatum commenced April 14 and expire on April 21.”


In part, the statement read, “we demand that all outstanding salaries owed to all categories of core public servants including primary school teachers, local government staff as well as pensioners be paid forthwith within the time frame of this ultimatum.


“That the salary for the month of March, 2015 shall be the payment of the full negotiated national minimum wage agreed and implemented in the state having exhausted the concessionary period of levy, donation and contribution.”


The NLC express sadness that delayed and irregular salary payments had been the order of the day in the state for over eight months, leaving most staff in the ministries and parastatals with several months of arrears ranging from four to six months.
