The Supreme Court has ordered a member representing Akure South/North Federal Constituency in the House of Representative, to vacate his seat.
Federal Lawmaker, Ifedayo Abegunde, was moved due to his defection from the invalid Labour Party to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). Abegunde was elected into office in 2011.
The seven-man panel on Friday, April 17, ruled by Mahmud Mohammad, Chief Justices of Nigeria, held that Abegunde’s defection couldn’t be defensible since his reason of “division” in the defunct Labour Party was not in existence at the party’s national structure.
The Chief Justices in his speech disclosed that such separation and factionalization quoted by the offender as the reason for leaving the party only existed at the state level.
Abegunde had jumped from the LP to former Action Congress of Nigeria party that has now transformed to the All Progressives Congress.
He earlier lost the case at the Federal High Court, and then proceed to the Court of Appeal, where he also before he headed to the Supreme Court.
