Football has attained such heights in today’s society. With two of its best in Forbes top 100 most influential people, it is only right if every action they take on or off the pitch is open to sanctions. They are role models.
Last month Paris Saint-Germain lost 3-2 to Bordeaux and Swedish international and PSG forward, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was caught on camera verbally abusing referee Lionel Jaffred. The icing on the cake was when he labelled France a “s**t country”. Coming from someone with his stance and status in the footballing world, this was unacceptable.
Ibrahimovic was criticized for his assault on his adopted country. The 33-year-old also issued an apology and argued he wouldn’t have extended his contract with PSG, if that’s how he really felt.
However, the LFP has nonetheless decided to ban Ibrahimovic for four games, meaning he will miss the Ligue 1 champions’ upcoming clashes with Nice, Lille, Metz and Nantes.
Sad story for PSG though. The Ligue 1 is rounding off with just seven games to go and with the ban, Ibrahimovic will only be eligible to play three.
