Chelsea Could have Signed Hazard For €100,000

When Eden Hazard was a budding teenager, Chelsea were alerted to his talents and availability and were offered an opportunity to sign the young winger for one hundred thousand euros but they passed it up. Only to sign him for 32 million euros four years later.

Chelsea’s then director of football, Frank Arnesen refused the advice of Gwyn Williams a scout and ally of the Mourinho who had recently departed the club. Arnesen could have offered Hazard a professional contract and would have been obliged to pay Lille only a hundred thousand euros in compensation but he apparently did not feel Hazrd was good enough.

Chelsea would go on to be involved in a race for his signature and have to cough out a whopping 32 million euros for his services, which was money well spent.

Chelsea would not really regret the decision as they are not particularly known for nurturing talent.
