South Africa took the lead against the run of play but Algeria came back brilliantly through goals from Ghoulam and Islam Slimani.
Algeria dominated most of the first half with South Africa looking to move on the break whenever they had the chance. The chances did fall to South Africa as they hit the post and the South Africans continued to grow into the game. South Africa however took the lead in the second half after a period of continued pressure on the North Africans, Phala had the simple task of knocking the ball in from eight yards after beign set up by Vilakazi to make it 1-0 in the 57th minute. South Africa continued to create chances but could not take them and in the 67th minute, Algeria caught a lucky break as Hlatshwayo nodded the ball into his own net from a corner to make it 1-1. Five minutes later, Ghoulam went on a run into the South African box before knocking the ball past Keet at his near post top give Algeria the lead. Keet’s error allowed Slimani’s tame shot to go in underneath his body in the 83rd miunte to ensure the Algerians stole the victory on the night.
Algeria now lead group B with three points
