A Keeper Will Never Win The Ballon D’Or: Weidenfeller

Dortmund shot stopper, Roman Weidenfeller expressed his feelings about a goalkeeper’s chances of winning the Ballon D’Or after watching his Germany compatriot, Manuel Neuer miss out on the coveted award as Cristiano Ronaldo was named player of the year.

Weidenfeller who also saw Oliver Kahn lose out on the award to another Ronaldo, coincidentally, Believes that the chances of a goalie winning the Ballon D’Or are next to nothing. “Oliver Kahn has tried, Manuel has tried. If these goalkeepers were so close and didn’t manage to win then maybe it will never happen. I am sorry for Manuel. He has performed exceptionally. As a goalkeeper you don’t have the same standing, especially when it comes to players like Cristiano Ronaldo who is a brand. He probably had no chance.” Weidenfeller was quoted speaking to reporters in Dortmund after the event.

Weidenfeller would be looking to get back into the Dortmund side and assist his team end their miserable run in the Bundesliga
