Manchester United overcame their injury troubles to get one over their rivals Arsenal at the Emirates stadium in a spirited encounter.
Van Gaal reverted to his usual three at the back, playing Mcnair, Smalling and Blackett in defense owing to Manchester United’s injury problems. Carrick was restored in midfield. Arsenal Started with Monreal and Mertesacker in defense. Arsenal controlled early proceedings and Welbeck had a couple of chances but failed to convert. Manchester United were forced to bring on Ashley Young after Luke Shaw sustained an injury in the 28th minute. Manchester United’s opener came in the 56th minute after a collision between Szcezny and Monreal let the ball drop to Valencia whose shot was deflected into the net off Gibbs. Arsenal continued to carve Manchester United open but failed to convert theor chances as De Gea was in top form all game long and in the 85th minute, Manchester United scored their second after a swift counter left Rooney one on one with Martinez(who came on for the injured Szcezny). The United captain clipped the ball over Martinez to make it 2-0 before Giroud pulled on back for Arsenal in the 95th minute.
Manchester United have moved up to 5th position and would be boosted in confidence while for Arsenal the frustrations of a stop-start season continue.
