Manchester United Considering Loan Move For Vermaelen (Reports)

Manchester United have literally done a tour of Europe looking for a defender to bring in to help stabilize the shaky situation at the back. There have been rumors linking the Old Trafford outfit to Hummels and Pepe in recent weeks. But this time, the rumors are linking them with a move for former Arsenal man, Thomas Vermaelen

Van Gaal attempted to bring Vermaelen to Manchester United in the summer but the Belgian ended up ,oving to Barcelona from Arsenal for 15 million Euros. Vermaelen is still yet to make a single appearance for Barcelona as he has been plagued by injuries. And even if he was fit he might have to play often from the bench as he is behind Pique, Mascherano and Mathieu in selection order at central defense. Manchester United are rumored to be considering a loan deal for the Belgian in January as van Gaal considers his options in defense over the next few transfer windows.

If Manchester United can bring in Vermaelen, he could help steady the ship while Manchester United prepare to bring in a new defender on a permanent basis. However, for a team like Manchester United whose defensive problems are majorly due to injuries, Vermaelen who, in recent times has spent more time on the treatment table than on the pitch might not be the wisest acquisition.
