There have been major upsets in the Tennis world this year. British No 1 Andy Murray survived one against a 21 year old to reach the semifinals of the Miami Open.

The Scotsman, Andy Murray wore out Austrian opponent, Dominic Thiem to clinch a 3-6 6-4 6-1 win. The 501st of his career.

Murray who appeared to be in pain after hitting a volley in the first set, which Thiem did not fail to capitalize on came back stronger in the second set. The 21 year old who was in the first ATP quarter-finals of his career, oozed confidence, but couldn’t match Andy Murray.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Murray had this to say.

“I started to return better, especially in the third set,” he said. “I really struggled at the start of the match.

“I struggled on the first serve returns and even when I got them into play I was leaving them short and he was able to dictate the points.

“He’s such a powerful guy, so if he’s dictating from inside the court you end up doing a lot of running.

“Having said that. I played pretty decent in the first set. I had one bad game on my serve, but otherwise hit the ball well but did not return well when I needed too.

“I started doing that towards the end of the second set and was more confident in the third. There’s a fine line between going for winners and trying to finish points.”

Murray also played down injury concerns about his shoulder. He added: “I hurt it on a volley, stretched a little and felt a shooting pain but was fine after that. Nothing major.”

Murray faces Czech eight seed, Tomas Berdych in the semifinals.
