Chelsea were in the cusp of a 1-0 victory at the Etihad earlier today when the unthinkable happened. Frank Lampard, a Chelsea legend and the clubs all time highest goal scorer equalized for Manchester City.
Manchester City dominated for most of the game but struggled to create chances. And when Zabaleta was booked for the second time and sent off, the game changed in Chelsea’s favor and substitute, Schurrle put Chelsea ahead knocking the ball in at the back post following a delightful ball by Hazard. Diego Costa almost made it two as his shot came of the post before Frank Lampard came on as a sub to make his home debut for Manchester City. Man of the match James Milner came powering down the left flank and crossed the ball towards the 6 yard box and was met by a Frank Lampard volley into the Chelsea net.
The goal was Frank Lampard’s 176th in the premier league but the former England international did not celebrate it and was appreciated by both the Manchester City and the Chelsea fans. The former for handing them a precious point and the latter for the 203 goals in the blue color.
This has to be the football story of the month
