Iggy Azalea’s (the Australian’s real name is Amethyst Kelly) rise to stardom has been interrupted by a ugly legal tussle involving alleged thievery, fraud and a purported sex tape.
According to report, Azalea is suing her ex-boyfriend (the same guy who claimed last week to have a sex tape of her) for allegedly stealing her early music recordings, violating her copyright and forging a contract.
Azalea has already labeled the alleged sex tape fake (it’s not her on the tape), she says.
She may soon join the ranks of Kim Kardashian, Farrah Abraham and Paris Hilton thanks to the alleged sex tape. As John Basedow reports, the ‘Fancy,’ ‘Work’ and ‘Black Widow’ singer started off denying the naughty footage.
Now, according to THR and court papers, she filed suit today against the man who claimed to have the tape, Maurice Williams (rapper name: Jefe Wine).
She doesn’t mention the tape in the lawsuit but she does claim he violated her copyright, trademark, name and likeness, stole and sold recordings from her computer, and forged a contract to claim rights to her music he does not have.
No comment from Williams yet.
Azalea met Williams in 2008 at age 17 when she came to Texas, and they became a couple, even though he was already married.
Six years later, now that she’s had the top hit of the summer, “Fancy,” she’s in a legal struggle with someone she trusted when she was a teenager.
