The Lagos state governor, Babtunde Fashola, on Friday while giving an update on the Ebola virus at the secretariat general mosque where he observed jummat prayers said the last suspected case of the disease in the state had been cleared having tested negative under surveillance this morning.
The governor said the development meant that the state was now Ebola free and that it was safe enough for schools to resume on sept 22. He further said that the declaration that the state was now free didn’t mean Ebola threats had been completely eliminated as the situation in Liberia, Sierra Leone and other high risk countries meant cross border transmission threat was still there.
However, he said the state government was implementing strict measures to ensure the disease was confined to history and and urged residents to be vigilant, keep their environment clean and maintain good personal hygiene.
