Operatives of the Nigeria immigration service and men of the Nigerian police from the area A command, lion’s building Ikoyi, Lagos, on Friday raided a hotel and a guest house on Lagos Island, arresting 39 foreigners over the Ebola virus disease scare.

Among the foreigners, 35 were identified to be from democratic republic of Congo and four from Senegal. They were said to be cohabiting in the hotel and guest house.

According to security, the raids were motivated due to reports from residents who expressed concerns that activities of the foreigners swarming the area could lead to a spread of Ebola.

The police headquarters has placed all the hotels in the area under strict surveillance and charged residents to report any suspicious person or activities to the police.

It also said immigration officers would determine if the suspects are residing in the country legally, while health officials would determine their health status to know if they have the virus or not.
