2006 Ballon D’Or winner, Fabio Cannavaro has been sentenced to ten months in jail after the Italian was found guilty of breaching agreements concerning the seizure of one of his properties.
Cannavaro, who captain Italy in the 2006 world cup which they won, is currently under investigation by Italian authorities for tax evasion. The Italian and his wife had over one million euros in assets seized from them in 2010. The Italian was however caught going for a swim in one of the properties seized by the authorities in Naples, prompting the Italian to be dragged to court and sentenced. It was reported that Cannavaro’s company Fd Service owes over €1m in unpaid taxes. The Italian Agency of Revenue apparently claims that FD Service underpaid on Corporation Tax, Regional Tax and VAT between 2005 and 2010.
Cannavaro is currently a coach in the Chinese league with Guangzhou Evergrande was looking to become a member of the FIFA executive committee but his recent tax struggles might just prevent that from happening
