Icelandic strongman competitor, Hafthór Björnsson who played Gregor ‘The Mountain’ Clegane in TV series Game of Thrones has become ‘The World’s Strongest Viking’ after carrying a 1,433lbs tree trunk for five steps. Telegraph report.
The 26 year old broke the 1,000 year-old Viking weight-lifting record by carrying a monster log for five incredible steps.
He lifted the log, which weighed 1,433lbs (650kg) and measured 30ft (9.1m) in length, as part of the World’s Strongest Viking competition in Norway, which he went on to win for the second year in a row.
His log-carrying feat smashed a record that has stood since the time of Viking legend, when the fabled lifter Ormur Stórólfsson is said to have carried the mast of a ship that weighed 1,250lbs (600kg).
Björnsson fared much better after steadying himself under the weight of the log, he takes five small but crucial steps to smash the record. Björnsson can then be seen celebrating wildly.
“As well as winning the title of The World’s Strongest Viking for the second time in a row, I carried this MONSTER LOG 5 steps!” he wrote on his Instagram account afterwards.
“My back held up fine! I’m on my way to my ultimate goal, to win The World’s Strongest Man! NOTHING CAN STOP ME!! NOTHING CAN BREAK ME!”
Report has it that it took 50 men to lift the wood onto Stórólfsson’s shoulders.
Björnsson’s lengthy list of weight-lifting achievements includes winning Europe’s Strongest Man and finishing second in last year’s World Strongest Man competition.
