Kaduna United seem to be going through a major financial crisis as some players of the football club have come out to demand salaries, which have been unpaid since the 2013/2014 season.
According to Adam Ali, the vice-captain of the team, some players have already departed the Kaduna based side over the unpaid salaries and the remaining players might not play until the management acts on the pressing issue. ” We have been suffering since the 2013 Glo Premier league season, and this made the club to be relegated to the lower division. Adam told journalists recently. “The players could not play well because they were thinking of how to survive. We are very sad because life has not been easy for us and some of us are students who struggle to pay our school fees. When you work without getting paid, how do they expect you to survive and play well?’’
According to the club’s manager, Saleh Barnabas, the Kaduna State government has approved the payment of the players’ salaries, but they money is still yet to be released.
This is not the first time that salary scandals are rocking the Nigerian premier league, buttressing the need for corporate partnership in Nigerian sports.
