INEC: President Jonathan To Sack Jega? See Who Is Replacing Him

Reports have started to gather momentum that the Federal Government is preparing to dismiss the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Attahiru Jega, and replace him with the the immediate past Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAU), Professor Femi Mimiko, who is the younger brother of Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko.

According to Naij publication, Prof. Mimiko appointment as the VC of the Akungba-based University in Ondo State, five years ago, received lot of backlashes from stakeholders who criticised the Ondo State Governor for appointing his blood brother in such a position.

Close source to the Mimiko’s disclosed that “It is a done deal! Prof. will be drafted into the race as President Jonathan is no more comfortable with Jega in that position”.

The speculation has received inundated attention on Twitter, with a user by the name, Ajibade Abiodun claiming to have had a chat with Prof. Mimiko and also fueling the rumour incessantly. See his tweet below:

Vanguard in a report captures it all saying: “The Presidency is considering bringing in another academic from the South-West, who is currently heading a tertiary institution in the country. The professor of Political Science and International Relations is said to be a sibling of a serving governor in the South-West, who is a close ally of President Jonathan and his party.”

Governor Mimiko who is the campaign coordinator for the president’s campaign team in the South-west and was recently quoted as saying the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) lacks the intellectual competence and capability to run a 21st century government.
