A frail 80 year old widow was left shocked and upset after receiving a letter informing her that she had died and offering condolences, thanks to a bungle by her pension provider. The telegraph reported that the woman whose name was given only as Mrs Fulton received a letter from her pension provider, standard life, at her home in Spalding, Lincolnshire, which was addressed to ‘The Executioners of Mrs B Fulton’.
Neighbors of Mrs Fulton who lives alone and suffered a severe stroke almost a decade ago contacted standard life on her behalf and were able to restart her pension payment and secure her £50 and flowers by way of apology.
A spokesman said “We are very sorry this occurred and for the concern it has caused. We blame human error for the blunder and have carried out a review to understand what really happened”.
