McLaren Driver and former Formula 1 world champion, Fernando Alonso is set to miss the Australian Gran Prix on advice of team doctors who fear that the Spaniard may suffer a second concussion if he races in Melbourne.
Alonso crashed on the 22nd of February in Barcelona during testing and suffered two blows to the head. The 33 year old was immediately flown to a hospital in Spain where he spent three nights before he was medically cleared. Alonso doesn’t have any cardiac or physical problems but McLaren doctors advised that the former world champion withdraw from the race at Melbourne to avoid the occurrence of a second concussion as that could be fatal. Alonso might miss the first four races as the doctors want the Spaniard to be completely recovered before he races again.
Alonso would be replaced by McLaren stand by driver Kane Devin a 22 year old who has less than 20 races under his belt.
