The Office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Logo Local Government Area of Benue state, was yesterday, set ablaze by suspected aggrieved locals.
The local government which is the home town of the current Governor, Gabriel .T. Suswam, was incinerated at about 8pm on Sunday, due to the protest by aggrieved locals over the Saturday’s general election results purportedly released by the office.
Speaking to Vanguard, the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of INEC in the state, Mr. Louis Ochai confirmed the development, describing it as unfortunate and deplorable.
Mr. Ochai said, “by tomorrow we should be able to get the full details of the unfortunate development, but for now the matter is being handled as a security issue; it is however regrettable.
“We just pray that our sensitive materials were not destroyed in he inferno.” Ochai added.
Efforts to get the Police side of the story failed as the telephone lines of the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Assistsnt Superintendent, ASP, Austin Ezeani were both switched off.
