Chelsea Produce Defensive Masterclass To Beat West Ham 1-0

west ham chelsea

An Eden Hazard strike in the 22nd minute was enough for Chelsea who were put on the back foot by a rampant West Ham side who didn’t take their chances and were eventually made to pay as Chelsea ran out 1-0 winners to stay five points ahead of West Ham.

The first half was end to end and West Ham created decent openings but failed to make Chelsea pay. In the 22nd minute, Hazard started a move he would eventually finish, laying the ball to Fabregas who worked the ball out wide to Ramires whose cross was nodded in by Hazard to give Chelsea the lead. Chelsea were immediately put under pressure by West Ham who made Courtois work but the big Belgian was up to the task and he pulled off some brilliant saves. West Ham dominated the entire second half but Courtois was simply at his best denying Sakho and Noble on multiple occasions. Chelsea hit a couple of times on the counter and in the 92nd minute should have rounded off the game as Willian’s shot hit a defender despite the Brazilian having the entire goal at his mercy. Chelsea held on to grab a deserved win.

Chelsea have put together quite an impressive run in the league and would need to keep it up as the season gets tougher if they are to win the Barclays premier league this season
