Manchester City and Cote D’Ivoire Midfielder, Yaya Toure has once again been named African footballer of the year, beating Enyeama and Aubameyang to the coveted trophy.
The former Barcelona midfielder has now won the most prized personal accolade in African football four times in a row, overtaking Everton’s Samuel Eto’o who won the award three times in a row. There was keen competition from Nigeria’s Vincent Enyeama but Toure’s performances in the AFCON qualifiers and his often match-winning performances for Manchester City in the past year earned him the award for the fourth time running.
Toure would be looking to lead the Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire to victory in the African Nations Cup which starts on the 17th of January in Equatorial Guinea. Toure would definitely go into the tournament with a lot of confidence.
